Each group has a maximum of 10 people and they all sit around a table. Our Expert Lego® Serious Play Trainer®, duly accredited by the Association of Master Trainers in the Lego® Serious Play® Method, asks a question tailored to your specific needs, whether an internal problem you wish to resolve or a challenge you may be facing.
Each participant is given a set of LEGO® bricks and is asked to build a 3-D model which answers the initial question asked by the Trainer and subsequent questions, so as to delve deeper into the problem. In fact, each participant is visually representing their understanding of the problem and their ideas as to how the problem can be solved, by building the solution using LEGO® bricks. Each participant is then asked to explain the model or the solution they have built to rest of the team.
The next step is for the trainer to ask a series of open-ended questions, designed to help each team member better understand the different solutions being proposed by their colleagues. The trainer then invites all the participants to find a way to connect the separate models to form a large single model. So this final single model visually represents the solution the whole group has collectively built to resolve the problem presented at the beginning of the session.
Lego® Serious Play® Method encourages individuals within the team to make a personal contribution, which ensures they take ownership for the final model and thereafter they are more engaged in their work.
It helps to build a more positive and constructive approach towards problem-solving within the team, eliminating phrases such as “it won’t work” or “we should have done this differently,” which are often heard after the meeting has ended.
